Description

“Pilot Mountain Sunrise” is a 12″ x 16″ acrylic painting on stretched canvas by Hugh Daniel.

Remnant of an ancient mountain chain that rose up hundreds of millions of years ago, Pilot Mountain has a fascinating history. It is one of the most distinctive and famous landmarks on the East coast. It was used as a navigational marker by early Native Americans and Pioneers as they traveled across Western North Carolina. The Saura people knew the mountain as Jomeokee meaning Great Guide or Pilot. The paths used by ancient Native American tribes became the Great Wagon Road, used by 18th century colonists to travel and settle further South. On the Great Wagon Road, Jomeokee or Pilot served as a landmark for German Moravian settlers traveling to their new home of der Wachua, or Wachovia, present day Winston-Salem.

Framed in a medium brown 13″ x 17″ floating frame. Signed lower right.

Shipping for the original painting will be within 3 to 4 business days, carefully packaged to protect the canvas.
